PAAM Members’ Juried, January 23-March 8

Juror: Dominic Molon, Richard Baker Brown Curator of Contemporary Art, RISD Museum, Providence, RI

Provincetown Art Association and Museum received over 300 submissions and the juror, Dominic Molon, narrowed it down to 52 pieces. Molon states, “art frequently reflects the immediate surroundings or context of the artist. When presented with such a substantial and extensive collection of images and objects submitted by the members of PAAM, I had expected the astonishing natural beauty of the coastline to be a dominant theme or subject for most of the work.  While I did, in fact, see numerous evocations of beaches, dunes, boats, and oceanic phenomena in general, I was pleased to encounter a diverse range of works in various mediums that engaged abstraction, patterns, city-scapes, still-life and the human form with incredible sophistication and imagination. Some of the pictures and objects assembled for this exhibition were selected because they were judged to have been the most outstanding representative of a given subject, style, or approach.”
